Cabinet Refacing vs. Replacing vs. Painting: Which Should You Choose?

Cabinet Refacing vs. Replacing vs. Painting: Which Should You Choose?

New cabinets are often the biggest line item in a kitchen remodel, so it pays to know your options. Here is how the three main approaches compare for homeowners in Allen, Richardson, Carrollton and across North Dallas.

Painting (refinishing)

If your cabinet boxes and doors are solid and you like the layout, painting is the most budget-friendly way to get a fresh, durable new finish. It is also quick and low-mess.

Refacing

Refacing keeps your existing boxes but replaces the doors, drawer fronts and hardware. You get a brand-new look and can even change the door style, all for far less than full custom cabinetry.

Replacing

If your cabinets are damaged, poorly built, or you want a completely different layout, all-new cabinets are the way to go. It costs the most, but it gives you the most freedom.

Which is right for you?

  • Tight budget, good bones: paint.
  • Want a new look without a full remodel: reface.
  • Changing the layout or starting fresh: replace.
