Quartz vs. Granite Countertops: Which Is Right for Your Kitchen?

Quartz vs. Granite Countertops: Which Is Right for Your Kitchen?

Countertops set the tone for the whole kitchen, so it is worth choosing well. The two most requested options we install in Plano, McKinney, Allen and across North Dallas are quartz and granite. Here is how they compare.

Quartz: low maintenance and consistent

Quartz is engineered stone. Because it is non-porous, it never needs sealing, resists stains, and wipes clean easily. Colors and patterns are consistent, so what you see in the sample is what you get. For busy family kitchens, quartz is usually our top recommendation.

Granite: natural and one of a kind

Granite is natural stone, so every slab is unique. It is very heat resistant and beautiful, with real depth and movement. The tradeoff is that it is porous and should be sealed periodically to protect against stains.

What about marble?

Marble is stunning and timeless, but it is softer and stains more easily, so it works best for homeowners who love the look and do not mind a little extra care.

How to choose

  • Want the lowest maintenance? Go quartz.
  • Love natural, one-of-a-kind stone and do not mind sealing? Granite.
  • Want a luxury statement and will care for it? Marble.
